BOTOX®

BOTOX® Is a FDA-approved cosmetic that temporarily makes moderate to severe frownlines, crow's feet and forehead lines look better in adults. It’s a quick, 10-20 minute treatment with minimal downtime. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours after your procedure. It delivers predictable, subtle results so you look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines.

Benefits of Botox?

In order to avoid discomfort and to allow greater precision of delivery, our practitioners use a tiny needle to administer Botox to the specified facial area(s). Most patients remark that discomfort is minimal and lasts only briefly. Botox generally takes 3-10 days to take effect.

  • Effective for treatment of:

    • Forehead lines

    • Vertical lines between the brows

    • Lines forming at the corners of eyes

    • Can assist in treatment of lines around mouth

  • Easy to tolerate with minimal pain and no downtime

  • Safe and effective

  • Performed by an expert nurse injector at Youthful Reflections

How does Botox work?

Botox works by partially blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles. The result is that the underlying facial muscles relax and the skin begins to smooth out. Untreated muscles continue to function, thus maintaining normal facial expression. This is, however, only temporary. Scientific studies have proven that the treated muscles regain full function within 3 to 6 months.

Is Botox safe?

Botox has been approved by the FDA as a safe and effective therapy drug since 1989 and has been used effectively as such for over 20 years. The most common side effect is bruising, which is rare. Botox should not be used in pregnant women and individuals with neurological conditions.

Who is an ideal candidate for Botox?

The best candidates for Botox are men and women concerned with facial aging, typically in the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Botox is often used in combination with dermal fillers to provide full facial rejuvenation without surgery.

Younger patients often begin getting dermal fillers and/or Botox injections as a way to prevent or stave off signs of aging before they worsen. Non-surgical browlifts are also popular using Botox to provide a subtle lift for all adult patients.

Where is Botox used?

The most commonly treated areas include vertical and horizontal forehead lines and wrinkles around the eyes (“crow’s feet”). Botox is also effective in preventing the development of these lines in individuals who see early signs of wrinkling. If administered judiciously, Botox can also be used to treat lines around the mouth, chin dimpling, neck bands and enlarged masseter muscles. Botox will not improve sagging skin, damage from sun exposure, or lines not caused by muscle contraction.

How much Botox will I need?

Botox is priced by the unit and different areas require different amounts to adequately relax the muscles that are creating the wrinkles. While we can give you an idea of how much your Botox session will cost based on some typical amounts (for instance, crow’s feet usually need from 5-15 units), every patient is unique in their facial characteristics. Also, other factors such as gender, size, and the strength of your facial muscles, even your metabolism, all affect how much Botox you need. The following image can be used as a basic guideline.

What can I expect after my Botox session?

Botox does not require any downtime. You may have some slight redness and swelling at the injection sites. Some people develop a mild headache for a few hours, although this is rare.

It is important for patients not to rub their injection sites for 24 hours after their session. This is because doing so can make the Botox migrate to an unwanted muscle, which can lead to unintended effects.

When will I see results from my Botox Cosmetic treatment?

Within 3-10 days you may see a marked improvement in the treated areas with continued improvement for up to 30 days. With the muscle weakened, the lines will soften over time, especially with repeated use.

How long does Botox last?

Visible results have been shown to last anywhere from 3-6 months. Most patients feel treatments are needed at 4 month intervals but with continued use, the muscle weakens and treatment is not needed as often.

Is treatment with Botox Cosmetic painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The actual treatment typically takes about 10 minutes and an ice pack is provided immediately after.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve had “work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows. Cases of faces looking “frozen” are due to misuse or overuse of Botox by the treating injector.

Who should not use Botox?

You should not use Botox if:

  • are allergic to any of the ingredients in BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic. See the Medication Guide for a list of ingredients in BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic.

  • had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as Myobloc® or Dysport®

  • have a skin infection at the planned injection site

  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if BOTOX® Cosmetic can harm your unborn baby.

  • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if BOTOX® Cosmetic passes into breast milk.

What will happen to the moderate to severe frown lines between my brows if I choose not to continue treatments?

If you do not continue treatments, the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows will gradually return to the way they looked before treatment over time. With continued use, the muscles will get weaker over time, allowing you to extend the time period between treatment intervals.

How much does Botox cost?

Offices and medical spas that offer Botox in Montana either charge by the unit or the area. Because not all patients need the same amount of units per area, our providers feel it’s in the best interest of the patient to charge by the number of recommended units versus an area so patients know exactly what they are getting. If over-treated, a patient runs the risk of looking unnatural or “frozen”. Plus, it can be hard to compare price from one facility to the next if they are charging per area as they’ll likely be using differing amounts.

At Youthful Refelctions, the standard charge per unit is $12. Ask me how you can save!

What should I expect from a complimentary Botox consultation?

During your consultation at Youthful Reflections, we will discuss your concerns, goals, and desires. I will then assess the structures of your face, the quality of your skin tone and bone structure, and will make recommendations I feel will help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Possible risks and complications that could follow your procedure, if applicable, will be discussed as well as information on skincare and other procedures that may enhance your overall result. Financial information is then provided and treatment can be done at the same time if you decide to proceed.

How does Botox differ from other injectables?

Botox (along with Dysport, Jeaveau and Xeomin) is categorized as a “neuromodulator.” Botox works by temporarily weakening the muscle to lessen contractions that lead to wrinkles in the skin. It does this by blocking the nerve messages sent from the muscle to the brain. Botox only works on wrinkles that form due to muscle contractions beneath the skin. These are known as “dynamic” wrinkles and they form on the upper third of the face, the area of the face where we make expressions such as frowning or showing surprise. When Botox blocks the muscle contraction the wrinkle stops forming on the skin above it.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face.

As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow's feet become more apparent.

The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity and lifestyle.

What dermal fillers can do

  • Plump thin lips

  • Enhance shallow contours

  • Soften facial creases and wrinkles

  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars

  • Reconstruct contour deformities in the face

  • Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids
